May 14, 2008 - Graphic Artist Needed

Hi Browncoats!

The Austin Browncoats are in need of a talented graphic artist. This position would be volunteer, but it would also give you a lot of experience doing different art work, including logo design, print ads, flyers, and more. In the past, our graphic artists have been able to make a number of awesome pieces for us, including our logo, a print ads for the Browncoat Cruise, as well as an ad that has been used in the Buffy and Serenity comics from Dark Horse. Please email me, beth@austinbrowncoats.com, if you're interested. If you have a portfolio, send that along, as well. Thanks for thinking of us!

May 3, 2008 - Browncoat Ball Weapons Activity Almost Full!

Bad Guys II - Weapons of the 'Verse
Themed Activities 3

...is almost full. If you want to sign up for that track, do so quickly.

Can't wait to see you at The Browncoat Ball!

May 3, 2008 - "Can't Stop the Serenity" 35mm shortage does not effect events.

In recent days, there has been some growing concern about the status of many “Can't Stop the Serenity” events. While it is true that three quarters of the Serenity 35mm prints in the U.S were accidentally destroyed recently, it is also true that this is a problem those running CSTS can and are handling. In fact, we are still hoping to add additional cities to our slate. So, if you are interested in putting on an event please go to www.cantstoptheserenity.com to find out how to get started.

Regarding the shortage, it is important to note that the only events being affected are those in the United States. All events outside the U.S. have not had any prints of the film destroyed, and are thus unaffected. Furthermore, Universal will be shipping in a number of prints from around the globe to help account for the shortage, at cost to them, which is incredibly generous. When this, and the fact that a number of events are, and many are switching to using a DVD format projector for their event, the shortage becomes no more than a minor inconvenience and a matter of shuffling the available prints around to different cities. There may need to be some minor tweaks to the dates of some CSTS screenings but again these changes should be minor.

Can't Stop the Serenity is an organization with a superb set of leaders who are more than capable of handling this inconvenience. There has already been $10,000 raised for this year which is a strong start to attaining our goal of raising $150,000.

The CSTS Organizers are working tirelessly to gather data and overcome these challenges. We encourage all Browncoats to band together to ensure the success of CSTS 2008. When Browncoats unite, no power in the 'verse can stop us.

Sept 30, 2007- The Geek Calendar

Tired of those muscle calendars?  Not into firemen or biker chicks?  Would you prefer an all-geek calendar?  Your local Austin Browncoats and our friends are getting together to make a Geek calendar filled with some of your favorite sci-fi, adventure and comic characters, as well as some original characters from popular geeky themes!  We’ll have Starbuck, Angel, Poison Ivy, as well as some tricky faeries trying to run away from a Barbarian!  Think that’s all?  Well, we still have 8 other months to cover!

We are looking for models, make-up artists and costumers that would be interested in working on the project.  This is all for charity, so we wouldn’t be able to offer you monetary compensation, but you will have a creative credit for the project.

If you’re interested, email Beth or Jeff.
