An Apology
« on: December 14, 2007, 11:00:29 AM »
It has come to our attention that Rita and I should not have accepted our prizes at the Blazer Tag event.  Honestly, we didn't think of the repercussions at the time.  I want to apologize to all the attendees for our conduct.  I hope you all know that while we may make mistakes, like this one, our hearts are in the right place.  We want to create more fun events for everyone to enjoy AND make a lot of money for charities that need our support.

Rita and I are putting our prizes back into our prize pool for future events.  I will post this again on the forum, but from this point forward: Event Staff will not be eligible for prizes.

What does that mean?  Any Austin Browncoat that was involved in hosting the event will not be eligible to win prizes.  For something like Blazer Tag, that doesn't mean you can't participate.  You just will not be considered for the give-aways.

What else does that mean?  We need more ladies to come in costume!  :)

Again, I am sorry for my conduct.  I should have thought this through and I didn't.  No excuses - I will aim to misbehave... a little less.

As event coordinator I should have considered this but did not.  Of course I sucked at laser tag and didn't wear a costume so I wasn't even in the running.  ;D

I think it is very noble of Rita and Beth to return their prizes to the pool.  Thanks again to everyone who came!

I, too, would like to offer my sincerest apologies for not considering the implications of my actions. Honestly, sometimes I have so much fun with the Browncoats that I forget I'm also one of the organizers of the fun!

That's not an excuse, it's just the truth. You fine people pay your money to come and support the efforts to raise funds for charity. It's unfair of me to take prizes that really should go to you. These event are not about ME, they are about you.

Upon realizing my error, my biggest fear is that my actions will turn people off of participating in other ABC events. Please please don't let that happen. I guarantee that this will never happen again. Not only do we (the organizers of these events) need you to participate, but we genuinely and sincerely WANT you there. This organization is about all of us. It's about Austin. It's about nerdy geeky super fun sci-fi fans. It's about community and love and helping people. So please don't let the stupid actions of a few of us keep you away from the vast majority of very-not-stupid Austin Browncoats.

And to Sheena, who put on an amazingly fun and exciting event- you did a fantastic job and you worked very hard. You are my hero.
