Austin Browncoats Convention Booking
Austin Browncoats has a collective 20 years of convention history between our board members. We are all excited to be involved in new projects and lend our expertise (or, in some cases, vast amounts of creative energy!)
We have participated in numerous types of programming, such as:
Hosting Individuals Panels
We’ve hosted panels spanning topics such as The Linguistics of Middle Earth and How to Knit a Jayne Hat to How to start a non-profit organization and Meet the Browncoats. There are a variety of topics we’re ready to discuss including costuming and cosplay, accessory construction, photography, language and literature, social networking in relation to charities and fandom, fashion, etc. We can offer an expert opinion on Joss Whedon/Browncoat related panels, because our members are involved in this fandom as fans, board members of a charity and as professionals (through work with QMx).
Participating in Round Table Panels
We’ve enjoy participating in Round Table panels and group panels the most! The opportunity to answer questions about specific themes, such as Warrior Women by Joss Whedon or Podcasting 101 is extremely rewarding. We feel, as a panelist, you feed off the energy of not only your audience, but also the people on the panel with you. We are available to discuss a number of topics from linguistics and history to geek culture and technology. We are also available to discuss gaming in a variety of forms, as well, such as casual and competitive.
Auctioneering
We are experienced, tried and true auctioneers. We’ve been responsible for a number of high dollar auctions, including Can’t Stop The Serenity Austin and San Antonio, San Japan and IKKiCON’s charity auctions, as well as the Sci-Fi Hero Dinner at Dragon*Con. Thanks to our unconventional auctioneering methods, we’ve helped raise thousands of dollars for charity. We specialize in geek-related goods, since we like to personalize each auction and get the crowd involved as much as possible. Our style of auctioneering involves a lot of humor and competition, so it will be an entertaining experience for your attendees!
Emceeing
We are available to emcee just about any event! We’ve emceed contests (karaoke, dance), panels, auctions, charity functions, large galas, concerts and more! Conventions we’ve assisted include Dragon*Con, Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Firefly and Serenity and IKKiCON. We’ve always been extremely capable public speakers and feel that we are very comfortable in situations that require adaptability and ad-libbing. We enjoy working with a team of people, as well, and are quick-witted.
If you invite us as a guest, our requirements are:
Travel Expenses, Hotel Room
Unless we’re already attending your event, we definitely expect travel expenses to be covered or reimbursed. We’ll need one room (preferably a double/double) while at your event.
We mainly drive to conventions, since we’re based out of Austin, TX – a central location. This will often lower the cost of travel expenses.
Booth Space
If we’re not already attending your event as a dealer, presuming you offer booth spaces, one would be greatly appreciated. We prefer a 20x10 location, since out set-up is packed full of awesome, geeky goodies! All proceeds go to charity. Items for sale can be found at our online store, Whedon Wares. We believe you will find that our booth has a variety of geeky wares that would be a hit with your event. Our booth is one of the number one shopping locales for attendees at large conventions, such as Dragon*Con, NYCC, Phoenix Comicon, A-Kon and more!
Appearance Fee
This is negotiable, on a case-by-case basis. We do appreciate access to your green room, though, if that is an option.
